WELCOME TO PLANET EARTH III DLC FOR MINECRAFT

In, September 2022 we asked educators and parents to slide into frozen worlds to engage our global community in the amazing stories and landscapes featured in BBC Earth’s Frozen Planet II series.

Today, Minecraft Education and BBC Earth have launched the next step in our partnership, a new wondrous world inspired by the latest landmark series from BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, Planet Earth III.

With the Planet Earth III DLC, students will step into extraordinary realms of the natural world to experience the struggles and triumphs of survival while playing as a series of incredible creatures, including the great white shark, the Arctic wolf, the musk ox, and more. Exploring the way these animals’ lives are intertwined by playing as both predator and prey, parent and offspring, friend and ally, and discovering the precarious balance of survival. In this world created by Minecraft community creators Shapescape, the adventure begins at the BBC Planet Earth III Field Station. Here, players select their desired biome, study its wildlife, and embark on tailored activities. By assuming the roles of different animals, students learn about survival strategies and ecological balance. Each challenge unlocks rewards, deepening the educational experience. By alternating perspectives between various animals, students cultivate empathy and gain a deeper understanding of the ecosystem's balance. This approach highlights the importance of preserving natural habitats and the interconnectedness of life.

Travel around the world to a range of biomes: South African coastline, grassy African savannah, Amazon rainforest, Okavango Delta, and Arctic tundra. All while playing as your favorite new Minecraft mobs! Planet Earth III includes:

Planet Earth III DLC is available in 29 languages for both Minecraft Education and Bedrock in the Minecraft Marketplace – a unique opportunity to watch, play, and learn together, taking biology and our understanding of biodiversity far beyond the classroom or living room.

The Planet Earth III DLC is accompanied by educational resources including science lesson plans, teaching PowerPoints, and animal factsheets to inspire learning about the animal world, individual animals’ challenges and perspectives, and the balance of life on Earth.
