That’s why we at K12-powered online schools were thrilled to team up with Minecraft Education to help both our teachers and students build future-ready AI literacy skills with Minecraft Education’s AI Foundations program.
AI is still very new to all of us, even educators. Before teachers can help students engage with AI responsibly, they need the chance to explore it themselves. Minecraft’s AI Foundation program provides training and professional development that starts with the basics to build confidence and essential skills.
Building Confidence With Safety in Mind
Safety is at the core of our approach. With Minecraft, students are learning how to protect their personal data, recognize inappropriate content, and report concerns. They’re also building essential technical skills that help them spot things like bias, human oversight, and deepfakes.
While we want students to be curious and excited about the possibilities of AI, we also know they must be prepared for challenges that come with it.
Johnelle Dufour, a teacher at Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy, echoes this sentiment:
“It is so important for our students to learn it while they have this safe space to learn and make mistakes.”
Through Minecraft’s program, teachers like Johnelle are building a strong foundation in AI. And together, Minecraft Education and these incredible educators are helping create a population of responsible digital citizens—who are having fun as they learn.
Playing to Learn
Through the AI Adventurers animated video series, immersive roleplaying, discussion guides, and engaging gameplay, students (and their teachers) learn the basics of AI in a way that feels natural and inspiring. They’re encouraged to think big about how AI can solve real-world problems—now and in the future.
From wondering how AI could help us communicate with dolphins to designing galactical sightseeing tours, Minecraft’s AI Foundations program encourages students to stretch their imaginations about the possibilities while learning in a fun, dynamic way.
Exploring the Possibilities of the Future
K12 has been riding the wave of the future for 25 years now as a leader in online learning—long before “virtual school” became a household term during the pandemic. Our online schools break free from the structure of a traditional classroom and offer students a learning environment that is flexible, accessible, and personalized.
K12 students learn from the safety of home, all while interacting with peers and teachers through activities like virtual field trips, online labs, esports, and our interactive campus.
As a forward-thinking, innovative company, we want K12 students to stay curious about the “what ifs” that come with AI. These students are tomorrow’s leaders, and in partnership with Minecraft, we’re equipping them with the tools and knowledge to face future challenges.
And until then, they’re enjoying the journey. As a student from Louisianna Virtual Charter Academy put it:
“Using Minecraft Education in class has helped me stay focused. If you tell me to pull up Minecraft for a lesson—I’m interested now.”
Growing Tomorrow’s Leaders
We’re standing at the brink of a new technological movement—one that will be powered by the bright minds of today’s learners. For them to become the trailblazers of tomorrow, we must prepare them today, both at home and in the classroom. By helping both students and teachers build foundational AI literacy, we’re creating a future filled with strong, ethical, and responsible innovators who are ready to make the world a better place.
