Research indicates that young people need and want support in understanding how to use artificial intelligence tools. Nearly three-quarters of students have actively sought help and guidance from adults in learning how to use AI tools safely and effectively.

That’s why for Safer Internet Day 2025, Minecraft Education is inviting students to explore AI with CyberSafe AI: Dig Deeper, the fourth installment in our CyberSafe series. This new adventure invites learners to experience some of the most common risks of using generative AI while building understanding about how AI use can help them achieve their creative goals – all within the familiar and fun Minecraft world.

CyberSafe AI: Dig Deeper is an immersive, one-hour learning experience that helps students aged 8-18 understand some of the most common issues of academic integrity, accuracy, and privacy that they might encounter when using AI tools. In this lesson, students will discover how AI is already playing a role in their lives, helping them build positive AI-use habits through relatable in-game interactions with safe, simulated AI tools.

CyberSafe AI: Dig Deeper puts players in the role of a student assigned the task of throwing a fundraiser for their school during an upcoming esports championship. When they hit upon a promising idea – selling the cute 3D printed animals they’ve been learning to make in STEM lab – they realize that AI might be able to help them quickly generate even more interesting designs.

But they quickly run into issues. For instance, the students see that AI can generate many different answers quickly, but that it can’t always judge which answer is best. It is up to them to select which answers are most relevant and appropriate for the task at hand.

Students will also learn that sometimes, AI can combine ideas and information in ways that don’t quite make sense or, even worse, it might make things up completely! These experiences help students understand why they must always double-check the information that AI generates and evaluate it against other trusted sources of information.

They’ll also explore challenges around data privacy and information integrity. When a classmate uses a photograph of another student to create AI-generated images, learners will be asked to consider issues of data use and privacy and develop guidelines for when and how it is okay to share personal data with AI.

But their encounters with AI don’t end in the classroom. CyberSafe AI: Dig Deeper asks students to consider the many roles AI might play in their lives and develop strategies for how to handle them safely and responsibly. Ultimately, the class uses their new AI skills and knowledge to produce adorable designs that help them raise money to support their school, illustrating that responsible use of AI can enable them to achieve their goals.

The AI concepts and habits students practice in CyberSafe AI: Dig Deeper will allow them to explore AI tools safely and responsibly, learning that the best use of AI is as a partner, not a replacement, for human intelligence and creativity.

"Human inventiveness is at the center of AI. This is a great opportunity to empower educators, kids, and families with the knowledge and skills to use AI safely, maximizing human creativity and its positive impact in the world," says Carlos Figueiredo, Director of Player Safety at Mojang Studios. "I'm excited to continue the momentum of our CyberSafe content, which has already reached tens of millions of players worldwide."

There are many ways you can share Minecraft’s CyberSafe lessons with your school, family, or community.
