Identify a potential Wonder of the World in your own city. Build the structure and prepare a presentation to present to your class.
November 5, 2019
Required Minecraft: Education Edition world for lesson.
Start the conversation by asking your class about what they think a Wonder of the World is and if any of your students can give an example of one. Once the conversation has started:
1. Split your class up into groups. 2. Explain to your class what a Wonder of the World is (with examples). 3. Show your class the Minecraft World (under Supported Files) where the Temple Of Kukulkan has been built. 4. Give an explanation of why the Temple Of Kukulkan has been selected to be a Wonder of the World. 5. Show your students other examples of Wonders of the World's. 6. Explain to your students what they need to do (under Student Activities). 7. Monitor your students’ progress and assist where need be.
We've designed this lesson to be used in a Mystery Skype session as well. Instead of the students presenting to their class peers, they can present to their Mystery Skype class instead.
Students must complete the following:
1. Research the criteria used to select a Wonder of the World. 2. Using the criteria, students identify a potential Wonder of the World in their home city / town. 3. After identifying a potential Wonder of the World, students construct a convincing argument to support the reason as to why their group decided to pick that location using Flip Grid, Sway or PowerPoint. 4. Once the argument is completed, students can start building their Wonder of the World in the supplied Minecraft world. (Please note: Students can only build on the "allow block" region of the Minecraft World). 5. When all groups are completed, each group can present their presentation in front of their class.
Please note: In the Minecraft world, there is a "Teleporter" in the world that will teleport you to a different location where you can start building your Wonder of the World. There are multiple standing NPC that says "Teleporter" above its head. You can find one on each side of the Temple Of Kukulkan.
