Learning Objectives

  • o To apply knowledge of vocabulary words to sentence construction
  • o To get familiar with gameplay and features of Minecraft

Guiding Ideas

  • What are the vocabulary words we are searching for today?
  • Can you use it in a sentence?
  • Would you recognise the definition if you saw it?
  • What resources within the classroom & in Minecraft will help us today?

Student Activities

  • TEACHERS: It is best to set the world for /wb false before beginning
  • Students will begin independently answering the questions either via Class Notebook, Teams channel, orally or preferred method to share their voice.
  • Teacher will arrange groups of 2-3 students using one iPad or Windows device to promote collaboration and teamwork.
  • Student roles: Hunter(use the iPad), Facilitator(aware of time and objectives) and Writer(makes sure important information i.e. definitions etc are written or saved to OneDrive)
  • Once teams and roles are assigned then teachers hosts the world. Explain that vocabulary are hidden but that bright green blocks are the visual clue to find them.
  • Stop every 5 mins or so to ask, 'How is your group showing teamwork?' and also to get updates on progress.
  • If students find the KahootBot then decide whether to have a quick fun quiz. Id so then teacher will need to teleport all students to the KahootBot to access URL link.
  • Decide appropriate sharing and stopping point. Use editable Kahoots or other means as a formative assessment tool as teams.
  • Teams that find all definitions, vocabulary and use them in complete sentences are finished.

Performance Expectations

  • Students will display teamwork
    • by respecting each others roles

    • praising their achievements
  • Students will document their definitions  with the vocabulary words
    • to be shared via their Teams channel to help others or via Class Notebook
