### Learning Objectives

• Develop understanding of the basic functions and formatting in Microsoft Excel through project based learning.
• Develop understanding of modelling to find solution to questions.
• Develop understanding of how spreadsheets can be used to solve real world problems.

### Guiding Ideas

Teacher to allocate time to each task

Teacher will need to discuss lookup function and may need to correct with the pupils to work correctly.

Why do we use calculations and not just type in the answer?

What is a 'cell range' and when would be use it?

How can we format multiple cells?

How can I duplicate formulas to multiple cells and what happens when I do it?

How would I work out how much money I have to save?

### Student Activities

Using the Town Template assign all students with a building plot

Ensure that all pupils place a sign outside of their plot with their name on.

Pupils will firstly design their house exterior using only the materials that are listed on the Price List worksheet.

House is to be 8x8 but there is no limit on the height.

Once Exterior has been completed pupils must work on interior - again using only the materials that are listed on the Interior Price List Worksheet.

All costing worksheets are to be completed using appropriate functions, calculations and formatting - guidance is given within the document.

Instructions for each stage are provided in the workbook.

### Performance Expectations

Pupils will effectively and correctly use variety of formulas to complete calculations.

Pupils will effectively format cells appropriately.

Pupils will be able to edit function commands where required so they work correctly.

Pupils will be able to cost the build and also create it in Minecraft EE.
