Learning Objectives

  • This unit is designed to incorporate all the standards covered in the Coding With Minecraft course.

Guiding Ideas

All the following lessons are approximately 45-60 minutes, depending on how much time you give students to explore the coding activities.

Lesson A: Course review

Lesson B: Coding a great journey (Please note that this lesson is intended to be broken into as many class sessions as needed to complete the final project.)

Lesson C: Course wrap-up

Please review the Coding With Educator Guide attached for additional details.

Student Activities

In this, the final chapter of MakeCode for Minecraft, you will ask students to create a final project that does two things:

  1.  Show what you know
  2.  Demonstrate something new

If your students and their Agent were setting off on a Minecraft adventure, and they could only program four tools to go with them, what would they take? Students will create a Backpack of Tools for use by any Minecraft adventurer setting off on a great journey.

You’ll start the chapter by reviewing the concepts we covered in the previous weeks and provide some ideas for an independent final project that students can focus on in the next several weeks. We will also provide a rubric for keeping students on task and tracking the learning that they are doing as they work on their projects.

Performance Expectations

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Design an original creative project to program four tools for a survival backpack to help them in a Minecraft world.
  • Demonstrate their learned coding skills and apply them in a new way.
  • Validate their approach to the project, including beta testing and analysis of code to debug and problem solve.

Please review the Assessment Guide for additional details.
