Learning Objectives

  • Understand different types of ground and how it needs to be prepared prior to planting seeds
  • Gain an understanding of key nutrients crops need in order to grow
  • Explore the key relationships between differing essential elements that are needed to grow crops effectively

Guiding Ideas

Please note: accompanying world is based on the 'Town Template' available in the main MEE platform.

Lesson can be adapted for students aged 6 - 18+ by changing the level of detail that is used within explanations and the level of complexity required from the final creations that will be assessed.

 

 

Student Activities

Students will start in front of the main lesson board and then will experience the following...

  1. Ride on a Minecart and soak up the landscape of the town template scenery
  2. Navigate to the Garden Shed
  3. Be briefed by their teacher on the lesson aim and objectives
  4. Gather important items (if required)
  5. Investigate planting seeds / crops on three different types of land: stone; sand and grass
  6. Observe a demonstration by their teacher on the best way to plant seeds / crops
  7. Have another opportunity to gather important items (if required)
  8. Be briefed by their teacher on their main task: to build a farm and plant a number of crops

Performance Expectations

All students will:

  • Build a rudimentary farm and plant at least 1 x crop

Most students will:

  • Build a farm and plant a number of crops
  • Use the 'CAMERA' and 'PORTFOLIO' tools to record their progress

Some students will:

  • Build a farm and plant a number of crops
  • Use the 'CAMERA' and 'PORTFOLIO' tools to record their progress
  • Create a selection of 'CHALKBOARDS' to explain various aspects of their farm
