Learning Objectives

  • Students will research cell organelles for both animal and plant eukaryotic cells.
  • Students in teams will enter either Veggieville or Beefburg and find locations that function or are located similar to cellular organelles.
  • Students will add additional items that further support their linking of locations to cell organelles (example: The Bank could be the Vacuole and students add chests filled with resources)
  • Students will be able to explain their matching of town locations to organelles using their knowledge of the cellular organelle function and properties. This will also be able to articulate difference and similarities.

Guiding Ideas

Can students find immersive virtual locations that remind them of cell organelles due to their function and role?

Can students add items to these locations to further support their linking?

Can students articulate why they linked certain locations to certain organelles and the differences and similarities of both?

Student Activities

Students research cell organelles and take notes.

In teams students enter a village and begin linking structures and locations to organelles based on function and roles in the cell.

Students add further items to help support their linking

Students articulate why the made the choices they made and what similarities and differences exist between organelle and location in town.

Performance Expectations

Students will research and record cell organelle functions and roles in eukaryotic cells.

Students will demonstrate their cellular organelle knowledge by finding locations in a town that represent a given organelle.

Students will make additions to help support their ideas

Students will articulate why such linking occured between organelles and specific town locations.
