Student Activities

Introduction to the assignment
Studens will design and furnish individual appartments in an empty skyscraper. Students can work in pairs.

Phase 1
Have a class discussion on what is required to make a comfortable and complete appartment. Discuss the limits of space, rooms and facilities in a small space.

Phase 2
Students will work individually to design appartment ideas on paper with a roster 1x1cm. 1 square represents one block in Minecraft. Make sure that the sizes of the appartments (including outer walls) is known. I.e. I used appartments 15 x 20 blocks and four high. I tried to illustrate this below:

[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] (forms ceiling AND foundation of appartment above)

[] Floor level, will be filled with blocks
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] (forms ceiling from the appartment below)

Phase 3
Studens will build their appartments in couples. Most logic would be: - Wall planning - Floor (design and colors, mosaic?) - Doors - Windows on outer wall

Phase 4
Students wil furniture the appartment. On YouTube several tutorials and ideas can be found to use stairs to form a couch and chairs, trap doors for tables, etc. Showers, bathtubs Floors can be designed with colors and material.

Phase 5
Students will take pictures of the appartment. Compare this to sites for real estate, where you present your house for sale. Show off all the best!
