Learning Objectives

  • To use a data chart of your choice to explain your results/information from a class survey

Guiding Ideas

  • What is data?
  • What data do you have as a result of your survey?
  • What type of data visual will you use to represent your results?
  • What data will you use to create your choice?
  • How will your choice determine what type of key or labelling is needed?

 

 

Student Activities

Create a class survey and use tally marks to keep track of at least three categories. Examples are favourite foods, colour, subject or science related themes such as temperature in different classrooms, measurements etc.

Choose one graph of the following:

  • Line Graph
  • Horizontal Bar Chart
  • Pie Chart

You must use one of these graphs to highlight the information or results from your survey.

Make sure you include all titles, sub-titles, x & y axis if necessary and relevant information.

Number , names , temperatures etc if relevant.

Performance Expectations

  • Charts and/or graphs created are relevant to my survey
  • My chart and/or graph has accurate labelling of:
    • key
    • X & Y axis
    • sub-titles (as needed)
    • use of number, names, or any other measurements, temperatures etc.
