Students will learn how to set objects in a Minecraft world. Students will work in teams to create and craft our classroom "map"in the world.

Learning Objectives

  • Collaborate with others to recreate our classroom within a Minecraft world.
  • Learn the basics of creating and setting objects in Minecraft, including tools, stones and creatures.
  • Use mapping and spacial skills to replicate our classroom in the Minecraft world, including furniture, doorways and cabinets.

Guiding Ideas

  • How do we set objects in the Minecraft world?
  • What does teamwork look and sound like?
  • How can we map our classroom in a way that will be easy for others to identify?

Student Activities

  • Students are given time to practice setting objects within the Minecraft world, and are also given opportunities to visit other students' worlds.
  • Students will work in teams to first, sketch and map out the classroom on paper, and second, to transfer the sketch to the Minecraft world.
  • Students will visit each other's final map product and discuss how easy or difficult it was moving around the digital classroom.

Performance Expectations

  • Students are expected to work together productively in teams to complete the map challenge.
  • Students are expected to create a sketch of the classroom that can be transferred into the Minecraft world.
  • Students are expected to build the classroom in Minecraft using a variety of objects that represent what is contained in our actual classroom.
  • Students are expected to discuss and present their final map to the class.
