Learning Objectives

  • Students will code their Agent to move in different directions, use their inventory, and build a bridge in Minecraft.

Guiding Ideas

This unit includes seven lessons, each approximately 45-60 minutes, depending on how much time you give students to explore the coding activities.

Lesson 1: Get familiar with your Agent

Student Activities

This first unit introduces students to coding, provides an overview of Minecraft: Education Edition and the associated Microsoft MakeCode coding editor. Students learn to use on chat and other commands to code their Agent to do different actions in the game.

Performance Expectations

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Describe what coding is.
  • Launch and connect Microsoft MakeCode to Minecraft: Education Edition.
  • Maneuver their player in Minecraft and use inventory.
  • Use on chat commands.
  • Code their Agent to move in different directions, use their inventory, and build a bridge in Minecraft.
