Learning Objectives

  • Appreciate art pieces
  • Learn about impressionism (Degas, Manet and Renoir)
  • Learn about principal Spanish artists (Picasso, Sorolla and Velazquez)

Guiding Ideas

This museum is made to experiment with the magic of art and living pictures inside Minecraft. You have to follow this steps:

  1. World builder must be deactivated
  2. First visit impresionism and spanish art halls
  3. Then follow Frida Kahlo and Berthe Morisot instruction
  4. Encourage your students to make their own art hall.

You can do this in two ways:

1. Choose a famous painting and research the artist and their work.  Choose a 'living painting', or video about your chosen painting from YouTube and link to the video in Minecraft by using an NPC. You can write additional information about the artist on a blackboard.

2. Make your own living art video. This is more complicated but is better for learning. Follow this steps:

  • Research about a painting and its artist.
  • Make a script about what your living art is going to say.
  • Create a green screen/chroma key backdrop.
  • Record in front of the chroma key background, and have students dress like the characters from the chosen painting.
  • Use a video editor (I use Adobe Premiere but if you want another free you can use VSDC Free Video Editor) to put your students in the chosen painting to replace the the green screen using chroma key effects.
  • Upload the video to YouTube.
  • Finally, copy the URL of this video, and use an NPC to share the video in your Museum of Minecraft.

In this way, you are going to use Minecraft: Education Edition as a vehicle for your Project, having at the end a collaborative museum made with external multimedia and Minecraft: Education Edition.

Student Activities

  1. With the methodology of Project-Based-Learning have students investigate an artist and one painting.
  2. Students make their own live paintings using chroma key compositing. Use the video tutorial from Frida Kahlo in the attached mcworld file. Another choice is have students only research multimedia online and share the links to the chosen artists through NPCs in Minecraft.
  3. Students make their own museum.

Performance Expectations

Research about art and make a live painting.

Share within a "Magic Museum."
