### Learning Objectives

• Understand the definitions of Area & Volume.
• Calculate the Area & Volume of different shapes.
• Correlate & integrate Area & Volume in daily life.
• Learn about the diversity in Fauna endemic to Australia.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the creative & narrative tools in Minecraft: Education Edition i.e Slate, Poster, Board, Signs & NPCs.

### Guiding Ideas

Introduce the topic to your classroom. Start with an ice-breaker session where you ask the students to differentiate between Area & Volume.

• Area is the number of square units required to cover a particular surface.
• Volume is the measurement of capacity in cubic units.

### Student Activities

1. Students load the supplied Minecraft world file. This world is a visual representation to help students  understand the concepts of Area & Volume.
2. Students use mathematical formulae to solve each of the puzzles. They could write answers to the numbered puzzles on a piece of paper or on the question chalkboard and take a screenshot or use the in-game camera to document their work. The final answer can be documented in a Book & Quill in the respective chests as well.
3. For each puzzle they solve, students earn in-game gems. The student earning all the in-game gems the fastest can be entitled to a special prize by the teacher.

### Performance Expectations

• All Learners will be able to explain what is Area & Volume & differentiate between them.
• Most Learners will be able to calculate Area & Volume by counting blocks & apply formulae for calculating Area & Volume.
• Some Learners will be able to apply formulae for solving word problems.
