The Scheme of Work provides a high level overview of the entire project and the various stages. The granularity is within the Lesson Plans

Learning Objectives

  • • Develop an understanding of architecture and how architects design buildings
  • • Create a detailed building plan for an amazing building in Minecraft: Education Edition
  • • Build an interesting or unusual building inspired by amazing architecture from around the world
  • • Create a screen recording and voiceover walkthrough of your amazing building

Guiding Ideas

Learners will develop an understanding of how architects design buildings through exploring an example of amazing architecture in Minecraft: Education Edition. Learners will research and collect examples of interesting or unusual buildings from around the world and explore why these buildings are unique. Following their research, learners will plan, design and build their own examples of amazing architecture in Minecraft: Education Edition. Learners will create multimedia presentations to share information about their amazing buildings. These presentations will be linked to their Minecraft buildings through the addition of NPC’s. Learners will then create video walkthroughs to present their amazing architecture to a wider audience.

Teacher Preparation / Notes

The Scheme of Work is organised into 5 Stages: Research, Planning, Information Sharing and Video Walkthrough. Each Stage is supported with a Lesson Support document.

Essential Questions:

  • How do architects design buildings?
  • What makes a building interesting or unusual?
  • How will you create your amazing building in Minecraft?
  • How will you present the information to visitors?
  • How will you create your walk-through?
  • What have you learned through this process?

 

Student Activities

Research – 2 hours

  • Explore an example of amazing architecture in a Minecraft: Education Edition world
  • Use a range of sources to investigate and gather information of amazing architecture from around the world and consider why it is considered amazing

Planning – 1-2 hours

  • Use information collated in Research stage to list features that could be included in a new amazing building
  • Create a detailed plan for an amazing building, including the interior and exterior
  • Consider dimensions, perimeter, area and volume when planning

The Build - 1- 2 hours

  • Use detailed plan to build amazing building within Minecraft: Education Edition

Information Sharing – 2 hours

  • Create an online document to share information about the amazing building with an audience
  • Use education features, NPC’s, board, book and quill, to share information about the amazing building

Video Walkthrough – 1- 2 hours

  • Create a screen recording and voiceover walkthrough of your ‘Amazing Architecture’
