Learning Objectives

  • Write on paper words that start with the letter found in the Minecraft world
  • Build the letters depicted on the slates using blocks
  • Build something kids have written on the paper
  • Stay focused on the goal (follow the colored paths to find every letters) avoiding distractions
  • Be collaborative while building on the third area

Guiding Ideas

The basic idea is that kids join the Alphabet World, discover and find every letters of the alphabet.

The world is really ready to be used and it is basically divided in three very large zones.

  1. In the first zone kids need to follow a blue path and discover every letters from A to Z. Whenever a letter is found kids should write using veeery old technologies ;) - a pencil and a blank paper -  at least a word starting with that letter.
  2. In the second zone just after the letter Z and after  kids have left their horses in the stable a new path needs to be followed. The yellow path will conduct kids to several 'allow block' areas where kids should build the letters depicted on the slates and write again on their sheets other words starting with that letter (and possibly different from words written during the first zone)
  3. The latest zone starts on a remote village. A very long bridge will conduct every kids to a large 'allow block' area where now they can build something they have written on their papers. Collaboration is suggested especially if kids have written the same word.

Student Activities

Use the supporting files to let kids complete the following activities:

  • Write on paper words that start with the letter found in the Minecraft world
  • Build the letters depicted on the slates using blocks
  • Build something kids have written on the paper
  • Stay focused on the goal (follow the colored paths to find every letters) avoiding distractions
  • Be collaborative while building on the third area

Performance Expectations

Kids will learn to write new words exploring this world. According to my experience kids will ask to join the world again as soon as they complete it. In this case in the next session kids have to write more words than in the previous one.
