A Year of Literacy Learning with Dexi Ville

One year ago, Minecraft Education launched Dexi Ville: The Wordcraft Adventure, a pioneering game-based world designed to support children’s reading development.

Since then, Dexi Ville has become an educational success, empowering children ages 8–10 to explore reading and vocabulary through immersive gameplay. Developed for Minecraft Education by the Prince Couple’s Foundation, the game offers children a creative, curiosity-driven approach to literacy learning.

New This Year: Minigames That Add a Mathematical Twist

Now, to celebrate Dexi Ville’s first anniversary, Minecraft Education is releasing a brand-new update to Dexi Ville packed with even more ways to learn through play. Two new minigames introduce activities that fuse literacy with numeracy to support children holistically in their learning journeys. These activities build on the game’s core reading mission by introducing light mathematical challenges designed to strengthen both comprehension and problem-solving skills.

Royal Support and a Decade of Advocacy

Dexi Ville is part of a broader mission led by HRH Prince Carl Philip and the Prince Couple’s Foundation to raise awareness around dyslexia and reading challenges. For over ten years, the Foundation has championed inclusion through initiatives like the podcast Beloved Dyslexia and research focused on neurodiversity in education.

“Today we celebrate this significant milestone by adding minigames that will help children develop reading skills to support abilities in mathematics,” says Helene Öberg, Secretary General of the Foundation. “We’re proud of the game’s reach and excited to inspire even more students to enjoy reading and learning.”

A Collaboration Grounded in Research and Purpose

Dexi Ville was constructed by the expert builders at Shapescape, with content co-developed by the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) and shaped by educators, speech therapists, and students. It’s designed for both classrooms and home learning, and includes tools like Immersive Reader and Reading Coach to support every learner.

Dexi Ville: The Wordcraft Adventure is available in Swedish and English for all Minecraft Education licensed users. With a focus on fluency, vocabulary – and now numeracy – it’s a powerful tool to help students grow in confidence and capability. This year’s update was made possible through continued collaboration with Microsoft, Nordea, and the Crown Princess Margareta Memorial Fund.
