What does it take to build a stronger community—and how can students practice those skills in the classroom?
Village Square, Minecraft Education’s new civic learning experience, is designed for learners aged 8-12. Students step into a village facing three challenges and meet villagers with different perspectives. They must balance fairness and representation as they make community decisions and shape the village’s charter through creative problem-solving. Along the way, students will discover how active participation, collaboration, inclusion, and thoughtful decision-making can strengthen a community. It’s civic learning in the immersive, blocky world of Minecraft.
Created in partnership with civic learning organization iCivics and Microsoft’s Trusted Technology Group, Village Square brings foundational civic concepts to life. Rather than reading about how communities work, students experience and participate in what it takes to make collective decisions and strengthen a community through gameplay.
