This lesson is a part of the Storytelling with Minecraft computer science unit. Review the Storytelling with Minecraft curriculum overview to get a better perspective of how this computer science content can be utilized with students.
Review and prepare the classroom presentation to use during instruction. This will provide you with a scaffolded approach to help students be successful at learning the lesson's objectives.

Guiding ideas
In this lesson, students will meet three characters and tour their houses to make observations about the characters. Students will analyze the characters' homes and possessions in order to discover more information about them. Then, students will create their own characters with interesting details.
Student activities
Activity 1: Explore the Characters all Around World
In this activity, you will meet a guide who will give you instructions and provide you with books to write in. Then, you will meet three characters. You should explore their houses and take notes about each of them.
Activity 2: Build Your Own Characters
Students will work in Creative mode to create their own character. They will then add in their surroundings and objects that can give us some clues about what they like, what they are interested in, etc. They will utilize a keyword search to find necessary items and blocks in their inventory.
Performance expectations
Upon completion of this lesson, students should be able to answer the following questions:
1. What is a keyword search?
2. Describe the surroundings and objects you placed in your Minecraft build to give more information about your character.
